In the meantime
I feel like we have nothing to write because we haven't had any major accidents or any visitors since Maryanne. But we have been busy so this installment of our lives will be a variety of pictures and stuff we've been up to.
A couple weeks ago I went on a service project with my class to a very remote town called Boma. There is a nice old man who lives there with his family who is running a self-sufficient farm but using it to teach the children in the neighbourhood. He even has a tiny little school on his yard. He has about 5 boys that come to work for him after school and take care of his rabbits, goats and farm work. He grows sugar cane, fruits and vegetables and then composts the waste for fertilizer. We were going to help him with his house that the school is helping him build. Little did I know that this meant shovelling rock for 3 hours to spread on the floor of his house before we pour concrete. Oh well, here's some pictures of the farm.

School, with neighbourhood kids who wanted a picture.

Sugarcane press. (is that what you call it?)
Last week we made a quick trip to the coast for Terry and his friend Dan to go surfing. Dan's wife, Katie and her one year old and I tagged along. We thought it might be fun to actually see these guys in action. Well, it was really boring. The waves were really small or non-existent, which I guess was perfect for them. Most of the time they just sat there, waiting for the "perfect wave", while surfer girls and many others seemed to think every wave was fine. Katie and I had a few pointers for the guys once they got out which they graciously accepted from such seasoned surfers such as us.

Can you see the massive waves?
This last picture is of elections. They are crazy here. There are two parties, the purple and the red. They will each organize "parades" of supporters and go through town with loud music, honking horns and holding up traffic at random times of the day. This is a picture of one of those, but specifically of the speaker trucks which are around any day, usually yelling out loud incoherent advertisements. If they have nothing to advertise, the driver just plays really loud music. It's one of our favourite cultural experiences (when we're not trying to sleep).
